Work on a landmarked building, or a building in a historic district, often needs Landmarks Preservation Commission approval before the Buildings Department will sign off. Painting the facade is only one example. S & M Expediting prepares the Landmarks filing and follows it with the commission. We do not design the work, and we do not do the construction.
More than paint
Changing the color of a facade in a historic district needs a Landmarks permit. That question is on our page about painting a landmarked building. The same commission reviews other exterior work, including windows, storefronts, and repairs that change the outside of the building.
What we file
We prepare the application and follow it until the commission acts. Applications are filed with the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Buildings Department filing for the work itself is separate. We follow that through DOB NOW as part of our permit expediting.
Facade work
If the job is also a facade filing, see our facade filings page. We prepare the paperwork. We do not inspect the wall.
