A sidewalk shed in New York City needs a Buildings Department permit before it goes up, and a Department of Transportation permit when it stands over the public sidewalk. S & M Expediting prepares those filings and follows them with the city. We do not design the shed, and we do not build it.
Buildings Department application
The Buildings Department permit covers putting the shed up and taking it down. That permit is issued to a registered general contractor. We prepare the application and follow it in DOB NOW. The city’s project requirements for a sidewalk shed are on the Buildings Department site.
Transportation permit
If the shed extends over the public sidewalk, Department of Transportation approval is still required after the Buildings Department signs off. We prepare that filing as well. This is separate from a street opening. Our DOT street opening permits page is here for that other filing.
Facade work
Sheds often go up while facade work is filed. We prepare the shed filing. We do not do the facade inspection. See our facade filings page, and our permit expediting page for the rest of the Buildings Department filing.
